Between 2022 and 2026, SWIETELSKY is carrying out track works as part of the design‑and‑build contract New King Frederik IX’s Bridge, which forms part of Banedanmark’s Ringsted–Femern Programme.

The project includes the construction of a new, approximately 300‑metre‑long single‑track railway bridge south of the existing Kong Frederik IX’s Bridge, as well as expansion to double track at the Guldborgsund crossing in Nykøbing Falster, including related connections on Falster and Lolland.

The project comprises the installation of approximately 3,300 metres of new track, with the additional track positioned on the southern side of the existing alignment. The works are carried out in multiple stages and involve significant technical and logistical challenges, including track works in close proximity to existing infrastructure and under continued railway operation.

Track works are executed along the entire length of the contract and include removal of existing track, installation of new track and slab track, placement of ballast and sub‑ballast, and construction of the track bed. Extensive welding works are carried out, and reinforcement rails are fastened to all sleepers. In addition, new turnouts with associated turnout heating systems are installed, while railway safety forms an integral part of the execution.

The works are carried out in close coordination with the other disciplines within the design‑and‑build contract, including bridge construction, earthworks and retaining structures, establishment of pumping stations, and works in and around Nordic Sugar’s production and storage facilities. The project is characterised by a high level of complexity and stringent requirements for coordination, safety and planning, particularly due to its multi‑stage execution and dependencies on concurrent works.

As part of the project, SWIETELSKY delivers full responsibility for track works, including project and contract management, railway safety management (SR/ORF), and all necessary specialist services to ensure a safe, efficient and high‑quality execution towards final handover.

The project demonstrates SWIETELSKY’s strong expertise in delivering complex track works within major design‑and‑build contracts, where railway safety, coordination and technical precision are critical success factors.
