Between 2021 and 2022, SWIETELSKY carried out an extensive track renewal project on the heavily trafficked railway line between Copenhagen and Høje Taastrup. The project was executed under complex conditions, including limited logistical access and adjacent tracks remaining in operation, placing high demands on planning, coordination and safety.
The scope included both mechanised RPM track renewal and manual track reconstruction carried out in multiple phases. Approximately 12 km of track and 27 turnouts were adjusted, along with around 15 km of ballast cleaning, replacement of rails and sleepers, and installation of new turnouts. In addition, the project comprised renewal of the track bed, establishment of transition zones, and extensive drainage and water management works.
As part of the project, overhead line and signalling works were carried out alongside earthworks and environmental works, including treatment of soft soil areas. The project further involved renewal of two railway bridges over Vigerslevvej, construction of a new pedestrian tunnel at Valby Station, demolition of a gas tunnel, and lowering of tracks under bridges. Welding and stress‑relief works were performed continuously to ensure stable and safe railway operations.
The project highlights SWIETELSKY’s experience in delivering complex track renewal projects on key railway corridors, where high standards of quality, railway safety and occupational health and safety are essential.
